A newsletter is a particularly delicate format: it must be accurate, fluent and natural in every single language, while preserving the tone and intent of the original.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-f382d27\" data-block-id=\"f382d27\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text has-text-align-justify\">Years of hands-on experience have shown us that truly effective multilingual newsletters are always tailored to the target audience. Instead of literal translation, the key to success lies in conveying the message authentically in the target language. Every linguistic context has its own mindset and way of responding to language, so true multilingual communication is, in essence, a form of cultural retuning. Rather than saying the same thing in six languages, we\u2019re expressing the same idea in six different ways.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-9b687b1\" id=\"span-style-color-4-b-9-df-3-class-stk-highlight-strong-stylistic-expectations-by-language-examples-from-a-six-language-campaign-strong-span\" data-block-id=\"9b687b1\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><span style=\"color: #4b9df3;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>Stylistic expectations by language \u2013 examples from a six-language campaign<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>n\u00e9erlandais<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tone: informal, positive and youthful&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid the past tense; aim for active constructions<br>e.g. <em>&#8220;Volgend jaar planten we bomen&#8230;&#8221;<\/em> (correct) vs. <em>&#8220;Volgend jaar zullen wij bomen gaan planten&#8230;&#8221;<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use \u201cjij\/je\u201d instead of \u201cu\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid outdated words: <em>&#8220;Hoe bomen stiekem met elkaar praten&#8221;<\/em> feels more natural than <em>&#8220;heimelijk communiceren&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>allemand<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use informal address: <em>&#8220;du&#8221;, &#8220;dich&#8221;, &#8220;deine&#8221; etc.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prefer gender-neutral phrasing: e.g. <em>&#8220;die Studierenden&#8221;<\/em> instead of <em>&#8220;Studenten\/Studentinnen&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pay attention to correct case usage&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translate idiomatic expressions; avoid leaving them in English&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Portuguese (European)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tone: professional, but not overly formal&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid Brazilian Portuguese terms: use neutral alternatives to <em>&#8220;Voc\u00ea&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give preference to structures like <em>&#8220;A ler&#8221;<\/em> over gerunds like <em>&#8220;Lendo&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recommended: <em>&#8220;Leia a nossa cobertura&#8230;&#8221;<\/em> sounds more natural than <em>&#8220;Observe\u2026&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>italien<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Text can be informal and fluid&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Headlines should be translated as well; don\u2019t leave them in English&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid overly complex though grammatically correct structures \u2013 readability comes first&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>grec<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use as few foreign expressions as possible&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>City names, conferences and event names may also be translated&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aim for simple, clear and accessible vocabulary&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>espagnol<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose the correct language variety (European or Latin American)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tone and word choice must be consistent&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-e1c5a0d\" id=\"span-style-color-4-b-9-df-3-class-stk-highlight-strong-what-can-we-learn-from-this-strong-span\" data-block-id=\"e1c5a0d\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><span style=\"color: #4b9df3;\" class=\"stk-highlight\"><strong>What can we learn from this?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-2ce5751\" data-block-id=\"2ce5751\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text has-text-align-justify\">Multilingual translation is not just a linguistic task \u2013 it\u2019s a cultural, stylistic and strategic challenge.
