Does whether I need a certified translation or a regular translation affect the price and turnaround time?
Yes, it affects both. A certified translation is usually slightly more expensive and may also take longer. It is strongly recommended to decide in advance which type you need, because having a translation certified afterwards is more expensive and time-consuming.
What file formats should I send?
Is it sufficient for a quote to say that a five-page document needs to be translated?
I would like the translation in the same format as the original document. Can you do that?
Yes. We return the translation in the same editable format in which we receive the source text: Word, Excel or PowerPoint. For no extra fee, we also check the formatting to ensure that the layout remains highly similar to the original.
We can also handle original documents created in InDesign. In that case, we translate directly in the InDesign file. After translation, we correct any formatting issues to deliver a layout that matches the original. A typesetting fee applies for this service.
We follow a similar process for Canva publications.
Why is it important to clarify in advance which country I will use the certified translation in?
The process and requirements for certified translations vary from country to country. It is therefore important to work with a sworn translator who is registered in the country where the translated document will be used.
For example, if the translated document needs to be submitted to the Czech authorities, we must work with a sworn translator who is registered in the Czech Republic and is authorised to certify translations in accordance with Czech regulations.
How is the hard copy delivered and how long does it take?
We send the hard copy via FedEx courier. To be on the safe side, we allow a delivery time of 5 business days. If you need the hard copy sooner than 5 business days after approval, please let us know when confirming the project.
Can you issue a Certificate of Accuracy?
Yes. This certificate confirms that the documents translated by us are true, accurate and complete translations of the source files.
It is important to note that this certificate is not the same as a sworn translation and does not replace one. We therefore recommend clarifying at the quotation stage which option you require.
What is the difference between an electronically certified translation and a traditionally (paper-based) certified translation?
A traditionally certified translation is:
- A printed document
- Signed and stamped/sealed by the translator
- Often attached to the original document or a copy of it
- The classic format; most offices and authorities still require this version
- Sent by courier as a printed (hard copy), signed and stamped by the translator
An electronically certified translation is:
- Delivered digitally by email, usually in PDF format
- Signed with the sworn translator’s qualified electronic signature and often time-stamped
- Valid without needing to be printed
- Can be submitted online during administrative procedures
Important: A printed version of an electronically certified translation does not automatically become certified, and there is no guarantee that the authority will accept the printed version.
The printed version alone is not considered an official certified copy.
It is important to note that electronically certified translations are not accepted or used in every country. In some countries only one format exists, in others both are available, and in certain cases acceptance depends on the specific authority – some offices accept only traditionally certified translations and not electronic ones.
What types of translation services do you offer?
We offer traditional human translation combined with proofreading/revision as our standard service.
In addition, we provide machine translation with post-editing (MTPE), where the text is machine translated, then post-edited by a translator and subsequently proofread by a second linguist (full MTPE).
Our third option is machine translation followed by post-editing by a single linguist (MTPE).
Compared to full human translation, the latter solutions may differ in quality and turnaround time.
How long does a translation take?
Turnaround time depends on several factors. The most important are the word count of the document(s), the language pair and the type of service selected (human translation, full MTPE or MTPE).
We also take individual requirements into account, especially for urgent projects.
Which languages do you work with?
We provide translation services in all languages.
What do you need in order to prepare a quote?
Primarily, we need the source document. This allows us to determine the word count and analyse repetitions in the text.
We also need to know the target language.
We can provide an estimated quote without the file; in this case, we require the word count or page count, as well as the language pair.
Which file formats can you work with?
We can work with almost any file format; however, it is most convenient if the text is provided in Word or Excel format.
If the file is submitted in another format, additional costs may apply due to file conversion or desktop publishing (DTP) requirements.
What types of interpreting services do you offer?
We provide a full range of interpreting services, including simultaneous interpretation, whispered interpreting (chuchotage), consecutive interpretation and sign language interpretation. You can explore each of these services in more detail here.
What additional services do you offer?
All relevant information is available under the “Services” section.
Do you provide certified translations?
Yes, we do. However, regulations vary by country regarding what is accepted by the relevant authorities. It is therefore advisable to verify the specific requirements with the authority in advance.
Do you have experience working with SPCs?
We are experienced in handling SPC-related documentation and have extensive expertise in translating such materials.
