A scalable label design template for global chemical products

Introduction – Our new label design services

One of our global chemical manufacturing clients required a consistent, compliant and highly adaptable labelling solution for its diverse product portfolio. Operating across multiple markets, the client needed labels that could be efficiently customised for different product sizes, product variants and country-specific language and regulatory requirements – without having to redesign labels from scratch each time.

To address this need, we developed a label design template that balances safety, regulatory compliance and clean design, while enabling fast and efficient localisation. This project also reflects the expansion of our services beyond translation – we are now offering clients an integrated label design and translation solution.

The challenge – Staying consistent without disrupting compliance

Chemical product labelling demands absolute accuracy, clarity and compliance. Labels must clearly communicate safety, handling and regulatory information, while remaining legible and visually structured – even when content varies across markets and product formats.

For this client, the key challenge was scalability. The existing approach made it time-consuming to adapt labels for new product sizes, markets and languages. Any structural change required redesign work, increasing the turnaround time and operational complexity. The client needed a future-proof solution that would allow for content updates – including translations – without disrupting layout, readability or compliance.

Our solution – A modular label design template

We designed a modular label design template with flexibility at its core. The template was created by our in-house design team in Adobe InDesign (INDD), ensuring seamless integration into the client’s existing workflows.

The template structure enables:

  • Easy resizing for different container formats
  • Straightforward adaptation to multiple product variants
  • Efficient localisation for different countries and languages
  • A clear information hierarchy to support regulatory and safety requirements

By separating fixed design elements from editable content areas, the template allows for updates to text, languages and product-specific data without the need for full redesigns. This makes it particularly suited to global product portfolios with frequent content changes.

Integrated design and translation

This project highlights a new service we are offering: label design templates delivered alongside our established translation services. By combining design and translation from the outset, we ensure that labels are not only visually consistent but also optimised for multilingual expansion.

This integrated approach reduces friction between design and localisation, shortens production timelines and helps prevent layout issues that can arise when translated text is applied to rigid designs. Clients benefit from a single, coordinated workflow for both label creation and translation.

The outcome – A scalable and compliant label design template

The client received a clean, professional and scalable label design template that can be reused across products, markets and languages. The new system significantly reduced the time and effort required to produce new labels, while ensuring consistency, compliance and readability across the entire product range.

The template now serves as a long-term foundation for the client’s labelling needs, supporting faster market expansion and more efficient updates as regulations or product information evolve.

Key takeaways

This case study demonstrates how a modular label design template enables companies to:

  • Efficiently customise labels for multiple sizes, products and markets
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and clear safety communication
  • Reduce redesign costs and production time
  • Seamlessly combine label design and translation in a single workflow
